After years of development and experimentation, Dr. Clayton’s lab created a custom-engineered prototype they dubbed the “LouseBuster.” The results of this work were published in 2006 in the journal Pediatrics. This paper revealed the success of the LouseBuster device for killing head lice and their eggs. An accompanying press release by the University of Utah got attention worldwide, leading to international interest in this device, and the critical need for it.
That 2006 study as well as a 2011 published clinical study demonstrated the safety and efficacy of the AirAllé® device and treatment (see published data in the peer-reviewed Pediatrics and Journal of Medical Entomology). Subsequently, the FDA cleared the AirAllé® for head lice treatments. Thousands of successful lice treatments are being performed each month with the AirAllé device.
Larada Sciences was formed in 2006 to take this innovative technology to market. In 2014 Larada Sciences created the Lice Clinics of America brand.
World-renown Dr. Clayton moved his lab to the University of Utah from Oxford University in England. Subsequently, he encountered great difficulty keeping lice alive due to Utah’s arid climate.
When his elementary school children contracted head lice, he thought it might be possible to get rid of them by reducing the level of humidity near the scalp.
After years of work and prototypes, the publication of a paper in The Journal of Pediatrics, generated worldwide media attention that validated widespread interest in such a device and the critical need for it.
Received FDA clearance for head lice treatment & CE mark.
The Journal of Medical Entomology published a study that showed the LouseBuster (which is now the AirAllé® Lice Device) was highly effective at killing lice and eggs. Later, in a clinical report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (volume 135, number 5), the AirAllé® device was listed as the only device to kill lice and eggs through desiccation.
In a survey of professional lice clinics, clinic owners reported successful treatments in a single visit over 99% of the time when using the AirAllé device.
