#LetsGetRealAboutLice separates the myths from the facts about head lice
October 2, 2018 (SALT LAKE CITY) ā To commemorate October as National Bullying Prevention
Month, Lice Clinics of America, the worldās largest network of professional lice treatment
centers and the exclusive provider of the āone and doneā heated-air lice treatment, is asking
parents to help dispel the myths around head lice in an effort to end the stigma around this
easily treatable ailment. Children face bullying in school when they get head lice, and according
to a recent OnePoll survey of 2,000 U.S. parents conducted by Lice Clinics of America, 52
percent of parents feel judged by other parents when their children get lice. That is why Lice
Clinics of America is launching #LetsGetRealAboutLice during National Bullying Prevention
Month, in an effort to dispel the myths and end the stigma around this easily treatable
condition.
Lice Clinics of America is encouraging families to visit one of their 200+ clinics in the U.S., as well
as share the #LetsGetRealAboutLice facts on social media to help end the ignorance and
bullying around head lice. The truth about head lice is:
ā¢ A head lice infestation is not an indicator of poor hygiene, and head lice do not discriminate.
ā¢ Anyone can get head lice, regardless of ethnic background, socioeconomic status or
hygiene.
ā¢ Head lice do not jump or flyāthey almost exclusively spread by direct head-to-head
contact.
ā¢ Head lice do not carry any diseases, and they cannot make you sick. They are simply a
medical nuisance.
āWe have heard time and again from parents that misinformation about lice and trials of
treating it lead to embarrassment and shame. Children should not have to endure any bullying,
let alone be harassed about head lice,ā said Dr. Krista Lauer, medical director, Lice Clinics of
America. āAt Lice Clinics of America, we pride ourselves in educating families on the truth about
this all too common issue and the convenience of our proprietary heated-air technology that
kills head lice and their eggs in one treatment. Kids and families deserve to get back to life
without enduring the stigma of a long infestation.ā
