Lice Clinic Owner Helps Families Win the Lice War

A Real Need for Lice Treatment

There are some 12 million cases of head lice in the United States each year, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Scientists have found that most lice are now resistant to the active ingredients in over-the-counter anti-lice products. The most reliable way to remove lice, according to Consumer Reports, is now considered to be nit picking—painstakingly combing out live lice and picking nits daily for weeks or months until you’re sure they are all gone.

Enter Lice Clinics of America, the largest network of head lice treatment clinics in the world. These fast-growing clinics solve a major health problem that’s getting worse.

Lice Clinics of America offers a first-of-its-kind 90-minute “one and done” lice treatment. The treatment uses a fast, effective, safe, FDA-cleared medical device that is an effective alternative to traditional treatment that requires weeks of nitpicking and combing.

For Greg Eisen, owner of two clinics in Connecticut, the opportunity to start a business that solves such an important problem was attractive. “We have a scientifically proven, FDA-cleared medical device,” he says. “It solves a real problem, it works, and people love it.”

FDA-Cleared Medical Device

The device, called AirAllé, uses carefully controlled warm air to dehydrate lice and eggs, and has been clinically proven to kill live lice and 99.2 percent of eggs in a matter of minutes. The AirAllé device is available exclusively at Lice Clinics of America treatment centers, where certified technicians perform the treatment.

“This is the first truly professional lice treatment process, with a standardized set of procedures and protocols,” Greg points out. “It treats a medical problem with a medical solution. People are truly thrilled to be able to get rid of head lice once and for all in a single treatment.”

Helping Families Win the Head Lice War

Like most communities, Greg’s clientele face the obstacle of the social stigma surrounding head lice and the silence that comes with it. “We have to keep educating people about how they didn’t do anything wrong, and that they don’t have to deal with head lice alone,” he says.

In addition to the stigma, there’s the misinformation that abounds on the Internet about how to deal with head lice. Well-meaning parents share what they consider to be success stories using home remedies like mayonnaise, petroleum, and even kerosene to kill head lice. The recommendations range from the harmless to the downright dangerous. The CDC recommends against these approaches as none are scientifically tested.

It can be extremely frustrating for families to have the problem linger on and on for months. The CDC recommends that parents comb and check their children for lice for two to three weeks after lice are first detected. Because nitpicking is prone to human error, “reinfestations” are common, with some reporting months’ long battles with the pests.

According to an article in Health.com, “It’s best to approach lice as a war on many fronts: You need to use a variety of techniques to kill not only adult lice, but also their tiny eggs (called nits), which are glued to the hair shaft. The nits can survive treatments that kill the adults and vice versa. (These bugs have evolved over a millennium to live in hair, so they’re tricky).”

Thanks to Lice Clinics of America and the AirAllé medical device, this war can now be won in a single battle.

Greg is ready to take the battle to new fronts. Currently, he owns clinics in West Hartford and Orange, Connecticut, and plans to expand into New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts.
