Portland partners Mark Meyer and George Macoubray and Boise’s SaLeah Snelling honored for community service
May 22, 2018 – Lice Clinics of America®, the world’s largest network of professional lice treatment centers and the exclusive provider of the “one and done” lice treatment using the FDA-cleared AirAllé® medical device, announced that clinic owners Mark Meyer and George Macoubray of Portland, Oregon, and SaLeah Snelling of Boise, Idaho as recipients of the company’s 2018 Community Outreach Awards.
“All of our clinic owners are dedicated to helping families through the stress, anxiety, and fear associated with head lice,” said Lice Clinics of America CEO Claire Roberts. “These two owners have taken service to a new level with programs that make professional lice treatment accessible to under-served populations in their communities.” The awards were announced at the company’s annual owner summit on April 25 in Salt Lake City.
Meyer and Macoubray own clinics in Portland, Bend, and Salem, Oregon and Vancouver, WA. They work directly with a private donor who supplements the price of lice treatment for people who don’t have the budget to pay for the service. The owners also reach out to schools and encourage staff and nurses to send families to the clinic regardless of their ability to pay.
“Through this program we have helped about 20 families in 2017, including a homeless family living out of a car,” Meyer said. “We regularly discount treatments for participants in the Oregon Health Plan and Apple Care (Washington) so that families can have a more affordable treatment.”
In her Boise clinic, Snelling works with a program that brings orphans from Russia for a chance at adoption. “The children and teens that have been placed in that orphanage typically are victims of trafficking, abuse or some sort of violence and 99 percent of the time they have lice,” she said. “Often times I will spend 45-60 minutes with them in my office using Google translator to make sure they feel safe. While this prolongs the process, nothing makes me feel better than knowing that a bit of trust can start to happen with another human.” Snelling also works with families in the foster care system, a large local refugee population, and homeless shelters.
